ØNE

From the Band ØNE I got the opportunity to design the cover of their first EP released 
June 26, 2013.
It was a great pleasure working together with Aljoscha, a friend who is part of the band. Our perfectionistic mindsets matched quite good and after heaps of meetings we finally came to the solution which we think fits best. Actually we´ve been reducing my first proposal to a minimum from what it has been before.

hannibal lectern

The actual assignment is to design a lectern for the new university building. It has been quite hard for me to cope with the assignment as I also probably will not continue doing that after I finished uni. When I talked to the docent and told him that I miss the fun part a little he told me that this is not the way it should be and that I could turn the assignment. But the actual issue, the lectern, shouldn´t go to short. I came up with the idea of a children's book. Illustration and text. This is what I would like to do and what maybe people would ask me for later.

Na de 'one of a kind' opdracht, een uniek 'boekexemplaar' - een geschenk voor belangrijke mensen die de Istanbul Biennale ondersteunen - ; nu een serie foto's. - Come Fly With Me - is de werktitel van een serie foto's, minimaal 7. De foto's brengen in beeld hoe je een persoon ergens op deze wereld op reis gaat met als eindbestemming Istanbul. Het is niet noodzakelijk dat iemand gaat vliegen, het gaat om een individuele reis die een onbekend persoon in jouw fantasie zou kunnen maken. Waar woont de onbekende persoon (Kaapstad, Patagonië, IJsland.......) en hoe gaat z/hij het aanpakken, met een sloep met de zeestromen mee, of per luchtballon, fiets, vrachtauto...? Welke wereld verlaat z/hij en misschien laat je zien waarom?

Mijn reis gaat vanuit Tibet naar Istanbul. De foto´s zijn allemaal op mijn reis door China, die ik de afgelopen drie weken achter mijn rug heb, ontstaan.

A color experiment with a part of the back side cover of the "Lost Footprints" EP from the band project ØNE with what I´ve been busy with the last weeks. The EP is going to be released June 26, 2013. 

red drips

Unlucky accident that happend to a friend yesterday night on the way home from a festival not too far away from our place. Fortunately it all looks worse than it is.

I like the composition in combination with the ratio of dark and light. The unsharpness of the image also adds some mystic flavor, although it quite annoyed me at first place.

The broken part at the lower right, that looks a bit like masking tape debris, comes from a deliberate mistake in the self development period. I turned the photo around and put it on a slightly crumbled newspaper where at some places the light came though from the bottom.

General Electric Magazine (work in progress)

In combination with a commercial I am supposed to make a magazine layout of 8 pages. 
The pictures below are showing my first design. As GE´s company image is quite neat and clean, my line are more or less wobbly and sketchy, it is quite a mission to combine my style into their taste. The icons on the front and back cover are all drawn by hand but as they are so small you can barely see that and associate more it with a computer icon.  
The next step is to find a way to transfer the clean "sketch" of the layout into my own handwriting and minimizing the logos in size and quantity to still show the whole business of GE and the fact that it is drawn by hand.

General Electric Wind Energy Commercial

Finally, after more than 200 hours of thinking, sketching, drawing, planning and animating I finished my fictional assignment of a GE commercial.
Edited frame by frame via stop motion technique.
More skills in After Effects would have saved me a lot of work. 

"Ich Will Doch Nur Spieln!" - Exhibition April 22, 2013

In addition to the assignment "What I want / don´t want" I should make a documentary about the things I did the last 3 months. As I unfortunately did not make enough photos or videos that show my work process the way I want it to appear in a short film I decided to set up an exhibition. I was lucky that I could get such a well-fitting room in the new school building.
The exhibition was all about playing as well literally as figuratively and although it was only for illustration class I hung up everything I played with such as the tools I used, stuff I did for other subjects and my autonomous work. The resonances were suprisingly good, oh I tell you I was really touched. And at one moment the visitors themselves started to play with the things I installed which was my secret intension.

In addition to my 2D and 3D work I showed a video I made to support the message of playing.
It is a compilation of 1960s and 70s toy advertisements. That old because it has already been played with the toys and - to be honest - I just fancy the aesthetics of old video material in combination with those very ridiculousely set up television spots.
